About GRO West Africa Foundation

GRO West Africa Foundation (Get Right Opportunities West Africa) is a young and ambitious foundation based in Voorschoten. Our mission is to improve the lives of underprivileged children and adults in Sierra Leone and Nigeria by creating opportunities in the areas of education, libraries, and agriculture. We build self-reliance and are committed to the sustainable development of local communities.

The Role of Secretary As Secretary, you are a crucial link within the board and are responsible for the administrative and organizational processes of the foundation. You will work closely with the chairman and the treasurer and are jointly responsible for the effective functioning of the board.

 

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Preparing, taking minutes, and drafting reports of board meetings and any other meetings.

  • Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence and the foundation's archives.

  • Providing administrative support for projects and fundraising activities.

  • Monitoring compliance with articles of association, regulations, and agreements made.

  • Maintaining contacts with relevant stakeholders, such as partners, funds, sponsors, and donors (in consultation with the other board members).

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of project proposals and policy documents.

  • Assisting in the preparation of annual reports.

  • Identifying relevant developments that are important for the board.

 

What we are looking for

  • Affinity with the objectives and working methods of GRO West Africa Foundation and a passion for West Africa, particularly Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and other English-speaking countries.

  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.

  • Accuracy and a structured way of working.

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written (Dutch and English).

  • Independence and proactivity.

  • Reliability and integrity.

  • Availability for board meetings (approximately once per quarter, in the evenings or at another agreed time) and the willingness to dedicate time to the foundation outside of meetings.

  • Experience in a secretarial role or on the board of a (non-profit) organization is a plus.
